Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was one of the most prominent politicians of Ukrainian statehood. He led the liberation war of the mid-17th century, during which he fought against foreign influence on Ukrainian lands. Became the first hetman (leader) of the Cossack state, based on democratic principles
